I have been looking forward to trying this restaurant out for some time. Its located in the heart of Belfast, next to City Hall, which had a Christmas market on. I checked their menu out on line and was very impressed with it. Whats not to like, it’s fish, and I love fish.
We arrived on time, after a nice walk around the Christmas Markets at City Hall. Delighted to get into a nice cosey warm room. There was a nice buzz in the restaurant with a few scattered tables. The menu is Predominantly fish with a few selected meat dishes. Something for everyone.
I found the waitress to be distracted, slightly aloof and borderline rude. Someone I would definitely not like to meet again. We ordered our wine and food. I selected The Roll Mop Herring, served with sour cream (which I can’t eat), I didn’t advise our waitress of my dietary requirements (for reasons mentioned above) I hoped it would come on this side or my husband would be eating it. It did and the Herring was delicious. Marinated Sardines was next, equally as nice but the portion was to big. Salt and Chilli Squid with Chili oil was the nicest dish, the chili was just perfect. The food was nothing special and I really don’t think I will return. A very drunk lady arrived during our meal and sat next to us, she kept dropping her cutlery and spilling her water. The restaurant was more than half empty and she should never have been sat next to us. It was my husbands birthday and we didn’t wait to order a dessert. The prosecco that I had ordered on the phone when I made the booking never appeared. On this occasion I really believe that the front of house let the kitchen down. It’s a shame.
